A rare Porsche and BMW were uncovered in an Alabama barn alongside a hidden car collection that includes a classic Porsche 911 T.
The barn sits on the site of an old mining town where the collector, a former restorer from the Barber Motorsport Museum, has preserved decades of automotive history.
Both the rare Porsche and BMW have been stored in former miner facilities that date back to the 1930s.
The Porsche 911 T, in particular, remains original and unrestored, representing one of the purest forms of early 911 engineering.

The rare Porsche and BMW are owned by Lee, who once managed restorations at Barber and now spends his time maintaining this hidden car collection.
The Alabama barn is filled with other finds, like an Alfa Romeo GTV, a BMW 3.0 CS, and a Porsche 944 S2.
The Porsche 911 T was purchased from a former customer who sourced cheap parts and struggled to maintain it, eventually selling it.
While some of the vehicles have received paint and bodywork over the years, many remain as they were found, including the Porsche 911 T, which was lightly repainted in a shade close to Gulf Blue.

The Alabama barn holding the rare Porsche and BMW stands in the forgotten town of Akmar, once the site of non-union coal mines and a real machine gun battle during a dispute in the 1930s.
The commissary, check-in station, and gas station still remain, with barred windows to keep union forces out.
The hidden car collection fills these buildings now, with each vehicle telling a piece of Lee’s life story.
The BMW 3.0 CS was restored using parts from a salvaged turbocharged 530i, while the Porsche 911 T has sat quietly since Lee stepped away from his machine shop business.
Decades ago, Lee left a banking career to buy a machine shop and build a life around cars.

He used his skills to repair and rebuild everything from kart frames for his son to rare European sports cars.
That passion is evident throughout the Alabama barn, where the rare Porsche and BMW sit among boxes of spare parts, metal tags used by miners, and tools from a bygone era.
His Porsche 911 T might one day be restored and sold, but for now, it remains an untouched part of this unique hidden car collection.
Lee’s property includes more than just the rare Porsche and BMW.

There’s a homemade wooden boat started by his father, a one-dollar Jaguar Mark 2 under a tarp, and a kart his son raced at Road Atlanta and Mid-Ohio.
The Porsche 911 T and the other cars live in a space that once saw industry, conflict, and community in rural Alabama.
Each vehicle has a story, and together they form something far greater than just a collection.
This Alabama barn holds not only classic metal but the legacy of the people who built, drove, and remembered them.
