Behind the wheel of a small but ferocious 12hp car, this man pushed his vehicle – and his driving skills – to its absolute limit, and it nearly ended in a disaster.

Good things come in small packages, right?

Well, for one YouTuber, their Opel Rocks-E electric vehicle is the epitome of this, being a cross between a golf buggy and a Smart Car, but much more entertaining than both.

While showcasing its speed with just 12hp behind it, the small EV was caught off guard in the snowy trails that it was being pushed through.

YouTuber showcases wild speed of the 12hp car, Opel Rocks-E, but nearly pays the price

Born under the General Motors branch, German manufacturer Opel found itself as one of many carmakers moving allegiances when it was bought by Stellantis.

Since then, it has been borrowing the minds of French wizards Citroen – who originally marketed it as its own My Ami Buggy – and Peugeot to create one of the smallest intercity cars on the market.

Meant for roads no faster than 30mph, the Opel Rocks-E is a low-budget, easily-made, electric vehicle whose only purpose is to commute to the grocery stores in the biggest cities.

But in the mind of one rural YouTuber, the hilariously fun 12hp car is actually the ultimate ferry between outhouses in the snow.

Taking to an upload on his channel, YouTuber fex posted a video of him using the car to achieve speeds way higher than it claims to make, as it soldiered on down country lanes with a committed attitude.

Thanks to its boxy design, on this occasion, the YouTuber showcased how natural downhill slopes can push the car up nearly twice as fast as it tops out on even roads.

However, it wasn’t all plain sailing.

As you can see in the video at the top of this page, the joyride nearly ends in disaster as an oncoming car comes around a sharp corner, and neither vehicle can quite get on the brakes properly in the cold conditions.

Thankfully, both cars were able to avoid each other and carry on with their journeys without a second thought.

How 12hp is also rewriting the Nürburgring history books

Just as this YouTuber found, despite having a claimed 28mph top speed, there’s actually a lot that gravity can do to make cars like this much quicker.

So much so that a former Formula 1 team took a similar 12hp model, the Ligier JS50, and ran it around Germany’s Nürburgring circuit.

However, it set the unfortunate record of being the slowest car of all time to complete a lap.

It’s so slow that it could have been lapped four times by the record-holding Xiaomi SU7 Ultra prototype.

These cars are clearly much better as an intercity car or a glorified buggy, like how the YouTuber presents his Opel Rocks-E.
