A McLaren with ‘more than two seats’ is ‘definitely’ happening, as the carmaker plans to expand its lineup.

It’s been a year of change for McLaren, after it was acquired by Abu Dhabi investment firm CYVN Holdings in April.

Before the dust had settled on that news, it was announced that CEO Michael Leiters was stepping down and was to be replaced by Nick Collins.

Almost six months on, Collins has revealed how the future looks for McLaren, confirming that there will ‘definitely’ be a car with more than two seats and, generally speaking, more diversity in the lineup.

CEO confirms a McLaren with ‘more than two seats’ is coming

Since its introduction, McLaren has been known for its stunning two-door supercars, like the McLaren 720S, the iconic F1, and the 1,700hp Senna

However, it seems the carmaker is looking into branching out and will ‘definitely’ be introducing a McLaren with ‘more than two seats’

During a recent interview with Car Magazine, CEO Nick Collins said that currently most of the cars produced by McLaren ‘are quite similar in proportion and concept’.

But he’s hoping to change all of that and is already looking at ways to diversify the marque’s portfolio.

While committing to sticking to what it has always done, Collins went on to say that the company will also be moving into some ‘adjacent segments’.

“You’ll definitely see something with more than two seats, but that still leaves us in quite a wide territory,” he told the publication.

“And as I said, even in two-seat territory, we could have a lot more diversity there.”

As yet, no further details about the upcoming vehicle have been revealed, but folks have already begun to speculate that it could be an SUV.

Rumors of a McLaren-branded SUV, to rival the Ferrari Purosangue, have been doing the rounds for some time now, and it seems that Collins’ new comments have only added fuel to the fire.

The marque isn’t rushing to add an EV to its lineup

Collins’ confirmation of a larger McLaren comes just weeks after he revealed he wasn’t ‘in a hurry’ to build an EV

The carmaker dipped its toe into electrification with its first-ever hybrid supercar, the P1, more than a decade ago.

However, it seems that it won’t be adding an all-electric to its line-up any time soon.

In an interview with The Drive earlier this month, he said he does see an all-electric model being introduced ‘at some point’, but stressed that the marque wasn’t rushing to make one.
