Mercedes-Benz once drove a G-Class sideways along a dam wall in Argentina in a physics-defying stunt to show that it is ‘stronger than gravity’.
The iconic G-Class, also known as the G-Wagen, is a vehicle that needs no introduction.
Originally launched back in 1979, the SUV blends luxury with impressive performance.
Since its introduction, Mercedes has sold more than 600,000 G-Wagens around the world.

The Mercedes G-Class took on a gravity-defying challenge
These days, the G-Wagen is a firm favorite for celebrities, with stars including Travis Scott, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and big-time car enthusiast Floyd Mayweather all having one in their collections.
However, it was originally developed as a military off-roader, and it seems that Mercedes-Benz is keen for people to remember its impressive off-road credentials.

So much so, that back in 2019 to mark 40 years of the G-Class, the marque sent one to the Punta Negra dam in Argentina to take on a gravity-defying stunt.
The dam’s wall is more than 330 feet high and has a near-vertical drop.
Incredible footage of the stunt appears to show the G-Class driving along a normal road until the camera rights itself, and you can see the sheer drop into the dam below.
Mercedes set the challenge to show that the G-Wagen is ‘stronger than gravity’, and fair play, it certainly managed to do that.
The marque also shared some behind-the-scenes clips of how the impressive footage was filmed to make it clear that the gravity-defying stunt was the real deal with no CGI or camera trickery.
“Over 40 years, the G-Class has been continuously developed further, while retaining its character and unmistakable key attributes,” Head of the Off‑Road Product Group at Mercedes-Benz Dr Gunnar Güthenke said at the time.

“Its DNA is stronger than trends, defying both the passage of time and even gravity.
“We have dramatically demonstrated this with the drive, where the G-Class moves along a dam wall above the abyss.”
The G-Wagen has pulled off some impressive stunts over the years
This isn’t the first time a G-Wagen has displayed its off-road capabilities.
We’ve previously seen impressive footage showing a G-Class tackling a 100 percent grade slope in Austria.
As well as seeing one make light work of the legendary ‘Hell’s Gate’ path in Utah.
Proving that just because it’s a luxury SUV doesn’t mean it’s not an off-road powerhouse.
