Millions of cars have been recalled from leading brands like Ford and Volvo in the last month, for the exact same reason, and it’s a worrying pattern.
It’s not uncommon to see recalls come into play for cars.
Manufacturers will often find slight issues with the models they’ve sold and request that drivers make a quick drop-off for a correction.
However, there is quite a worrying pattern emerging as multiple cars have been recalled for the same reason.

Ford, Volvo, and Chrysler cars have been recalled for the same issue
There have been a number of large-scale and notable recalls on cars in recent years, especially with the increased technology being placed into EVs.
Notoriously, Tesla asked millions of its users to hand back their cars last year. It was even forced to recalibrate many of its earlier models after the ‘fun police’ made the marque remove the ‘fart horn’.
Even recently, the Dodge EVs were called in for being too quiet.
But, over the last month, Ford, Volvo, Chrysler, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Kia, and Polestar cars have been recalled for the same issues: rearview camera sensors.

In 2025 alone, over two million cars have so far been recalled for issues relating to rearview camera sensors. And over half of them came from Ford.
Models produced between 2021-24, such as Broncos, Mustangs, and Rangers, all need to drop by Ford garages to fix issues with the camera.
The crux of this is due to the software freezing and glitching. Which could cause danger if users are reliant on the tech.
Volvo recalled just shy of half a million cars, too, for the same reason.
How are these issues fixed?
For the most part, all that is needed is a simple software update. Ford issued updates for its fleet, which was completed in a quick pit stop at a local dealership.
This is actually good news, though, as software updates are much easier to manage than hardware. It also rules out any significant issues with the internal wiring.
Whether the tech issues are related is a different matter, however.
It’s completely possible that the manufacturers are all using similar cameras. That said, Volvo and Ford do not use the same software, with the former using Android and the latter making its own custom system.

But what is for sure is that they all have figured out a fix, and the recalls are being sorted.
Tesla faced some rear camera software issues in the past, too, which were dealt with equally as swiftly.
