The subject of an affordable Tesla EV has been much debated for years.
America’s premier EV brand initially promised an affordable car way back in 2018.
Of course, that has not happened – and the brand has come in for criticism.
It now looks as if it might finally be on its way – with rumours swirling about production beginning this month.

Tesla continues to be headline news on an almost-daily basis around the car world.
The EV giant has been a headline staple following its nightmare start to 2025.
It has seen its dominance of the European EV market taken over by Chinese rivals BYD.
Recent data also now shows that the United Kingdom has followed suit.
For whole host of reasons, Tesla has found itself in a massive tailspin.
And it now appears that Tesla has finally been forced into action.

As far back as 2018, Tesla was being asked about an affordable model, which the brand confirmed was on its way.
The years since have naturally seen a lot of excitement from Tesla fans worldwide.
Rumours have suggested the introduction of a brand-new Model 2.
Various reports had suggested that this would be a budget, low-cost hatchback EV.
That hope and vision has since been repeatedly dashed and denied.
What it does appear to be is a stripped-down version of existing models.
Lars Moravy is currently the VP of Vehicle Engineering at Tesla.
During its Q1 earnings call, Moravy offered an insight into what this budget offering could look like.

Moravy said that ‘models that come out in next months…will resemble, in form and shape, the cars we currently make.’
“And the key is that they’ll be affordable, and you’ll be able to buy one,” he went on.
Over the last few days, images have been leaked from the Tesla facility in Fremont, California.
The latest pictures appear to show a camouflaged, stripped-down Model Y.
This would, indeed, back up the claims that an affordable model would be based on an existing car.
It will be fascinating to see if the affordable Tesla offering actually hits the streets or not.
