A new VW is on the way, and this electric sedan is unlike anything the brand’s come out with before.

The German carmaker has teamed up with Chinese EV specialist Xpeng to create an electric sedan that’s more concept-car cool than the traditional commuter car.

Camouflaged test cars have already been spotted on Chinese roads, giving us a glimpse of the bold new look.

And from those early shots, it’s clear Volkswagen’s finally shaking up its safe, sensible design language.

About the sleek new VW

This isn’t just another update, it’s a full design reboot.

Volkswagen confirmed it was working with Xpeng on a next-generation electric sedan as part of the brand’s ID lineup – the all-electric family that includes the ID.3 hatchback, ID.4 SUV, and ID. Buzz van.

The ID range runs on VW’s MEB platform, purpose-built for EVs, but this new model marks a turning point: designed and developed largely for the Chinese market, not Europe.

Right now, the car exists only as a prototype, seen heavily camouflaged during road testing in China.

VW hasn’t revealed official photos or specs, but digital artist Sugar Design has filled in the blanks with their own interpretation.

Using spy shots as their reference, they’ve imagined a sleek fastback with split LED headlights, an illuminated badge, and a smooth, flowing roofline.

It’s a bold vision, and one that fits neatly alongside VW’s recent ID. Aura and ID. Evo concepts.

Both signaling a sharper, sportier direction for the brand.

It’s more than a design experiment, it’s a signal of intent.

A car built to push VW’s electric identity further than ever before.

What can we expect from this electric sedan?

VW hasn’t confirmed details yet, but if this sedan borrows from the Xpeng P7 (featured in the clip above), expect serious performance.

The P7 offers up to 586 horsepower and 509 miles of range, backed by Xpeng’s next-gen electrical architecture that allows for faster updates and smarter systems.

Exactly the kind of tech VW wants in its future lineup.

More importantly, this new car signals a shift in how VW operates in China.

The company plans to launch 30 new models, 20 of them electrified, and this collaboration is its fastest route there.

By partnering with Xpeng, VW isn’t just borrowing tech – it’s learning how to build for the world’s most competitive EV market.

It’s a collaboration built for the future.

One that could redefine how VW designs, builds, and competes in the fastest-moving EV market on the planet.
