Omoda has just ticked off a major first for the brand.

It’s launched its very first full hybrid SUV, and it’s landing in a market that takes electrification seriously.

On paper, it looks like a sensible move, but the spec list hints at something more deliberate.

Because this one isn’t just about efficiency, it’s about feeling properly equipped.

Omoda’s first full hybrid SUV is aiming higher than you’d expect

The new Omoda 5 SHS-H sits neatly between the regular Omoda 5 petrol model and the fully electric E5, giving buyers a middle ground that doesn’t ask them to rethink how they drive.

It’s the brand’s first full hybrid anywhere, and a clear signal of where Omoda wants to grow next.

The powertrain pairs a 1.5-liter turbo engine with a hybrid system and a dedicated DHT automatic transmission, producing a combined 201hp.

That’s enough to push the front-wheel-drive SUV from 0-62mph in 7.9 seconds, which is brisk for this class.

Efficiency is doing a lot of the heavy lifting here.

Omoda claims a combined range of more than 650 miles and fuel economy of up to 53MPG (WLTP), thanks in part to a 1.83kWh battery pack that charges itself as you drive.

Pricing in the UK starts at about $32,700 (£25,740), placing it firmly in the compact hybrid SUV fight.

It’s not bargain-basement cheap, but Omoda is clearly betting that buyers will notice what they’re getting for the money.

The spec choices reveal who Omoda is really targeting

That value pitch becomes clearer when you look at the trim levels.

Even the entry-level Knight model comes loaded with 18-inch alloy wheels, full LED lighting, dual 12.3-inch screens, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, voice control, and a full suite of driver-assistance tech.

Step up to the Noble trim and the tone shifts.

You get a 540-degree surround-view camera, ambient lighting, heated and ventilated front seats, and an eight-speaker Sony sound system – features you don’t always expect in this segment.

The top version lands at roughly $37,200 (£29,240).

There are also subtle design updates for 2026, including a new grille, revised bumpers, refreshed wheels, and a wide color palette with optional dual-tone finishes.

Add a seven-year or 100,000-mile vehicle warranty and an eight-year battery warranty, and Omoda is clearly leaning on reassurance as much as tech.

Backed by Chery Automobile, Omoda has been positioning itself as a smarter, more premium export brand.

With the 5 SHS-H, Omoda’s hybrid debut leans hard on equipment, not excuses.
