At a US airport long-term parking, 25 abandoned cars were mysteriously left behind — and when the authorities track down one of the owners, they are shocked by what they find.

The Springfield-Branson National Airport is relatively small with a proportionate car park.

Despite that, the authorities have found several cars seemingly abandoned in its long-term parking lot.

Officials only came to know about these abandoned cars after they decided to repaint the lines on the carpark.

Mystery behind the abandoned cars

Kent Boyd, the airport’s Public Information and Marketing Manager revealed something quite shocking about one of the cars.

The authorities had tried to trace back some of the owners by running tags on the vehicles.

Unfortunately, one of the registered owners had sadly passed away.

“We were able to trace back, and we found an obituary for the registered owner,” said Boyd.

“We contacted the estate and asked if they can please come get this car and they still haven’t,” he added.

Most of the other abandoned cars at the US airport have also been there for more than three years.

According to Boyd, the abandoned cars will eventually be taken away, but the authorities are in no hurry to tow them out.

“I don’t know what that timeline is. You don’t want to tow them or get them off the property too early because you know sure as heck as soon as you do that, somebody will show up looking for it,” says Boyd.

While we have heard about planes being abandoned at an airport before, it’s the first time we have heard about cars being left at a US airport.

You can already imagine each car owner having their reasons for leaving a perfectly good car.
