The long-standing Vauxhall Astra has been given a facelift, and now sports a bold new look, and some extra range for its all-electric model.

Vauxhall introduced the Astra back in 1980 and the car is currently in its eighth-generation.

For the 2026 Astra there’s some big changes, including a re-worked front end with an illuminated griffin badge.

The car will officially debut next month, but the marque has shared first-look images of the upcoming vehicle.

The Vauxhall Astra has some major changes for 2026

Vauxhall says the new-look Astra and Astra Sports Tourer have been inspired by the Vauxhall Corsa GSE Vision Gran Turismo concept and are now ‘sharper, more technical and recognizably modern’.

The Vauxhall vizor is now narrower, while the badge is permanently illuminated.

The griffin emblem is also the starting point for the light strips that run out horizontally and vertically to create a cross shape – a feature that was taken from the 2023 Vauxhall Experimental concept car

The new-look Astra also has new 17-inch and 18-inch wheel options, as well as a range of exterior colors, including Contour White and Clover Green, which sit underneath a black roof.

Inside has also had an update, with the carmaker introducing its in-house-made Intelli-Seats as standard.

The seats, made of 100 percent recycled material, are inspired by road bike saddles and are designed to reduce pressure on the lower back during driving.

The car’s infotainment system has also been made ‘clearer and more intuitive’.

Alongside cosmetic and design updates, Vauxhall has also added more range to the Astra Electric.

The carmaker says its EV model will now offer up to 282 miles of range between charges, a boost of around 20 miles on the current model.

As yet, no pricing details have been released, but they’re expected to be shared when the 2026 Vauxhall Astra debuts at the Brussels Motor Show in January.

The Astra is inspired by a concept car that offered a ‘preview of things to come’

Back in August Vauxhall unveiled the Corsa GSE Vision Gran Turismo concept car

The car showcased a fresh and in-your-face overhaul for the Corsa.

While the Corsa GSE Vision Gran Turismo is a concept, a new Corsa is set to land in 2027, and the marque said the concept vehicle was a ‘bold preview of things to come’.

Now, the carmaker has made good on that promise with the 2026 Astra, and we should probably expect something similar when the new Corsa drops.
