A Renault Twingo city car in Tennessee might be an unexpected sight, yet that is exactly what a Reddit user spotted just a few days ago.

Reddit user Conscious_North7965 posted a picture on the r/spotted SubReddit, showing a Twingo parked in a parking lot next to a Lexus.

The Twingo is a small European car, with Renault producing it in various forms from 1992 to 2024, and an electric version is now on the way.

It is in its earliest form that the Renault is best remembered, and that is exactly what was seen in this parking lot.

A Renault Twingo in America is an unexpected sight

Fellow Reddit users were just as shocked to see the car parked up.

Officially, the car was never sold in the United States, so it would have to be imported.

As some model years of the little Renault are over 25 years old, it’s legal to have them in the country.

This one is painted in a turquoise/green color, and it does look quite out of place next to the Lexus LS430.

However, a lot of the comments remarked on how happy the Renault looked.

The Twingo has quite a happy ‘face’, to the point you could easily call it a cute car.

Ironically, its small size is ideal in a world that is now seemingly full of large, bulbous cars.

How good was the Twingo?

Designed as a city car, the Twingo first appeared in 1992.

Renault created the name from a blend of twist, swing, and tango.

The first-generation model was a two-door front-engine car, debuting at the 1992 Paris Motor Show.

All models from 1992 to 2012 had an inline-four of varying sizes under the hood.

These ranged from a 99cc D7D inline-four to the bigger 1,239cc C3G inline-four engine.

The car made less than 100hp, but as a small city car for urban use, it was more than enough.

Compared to modern cars, the car was also light, weighing just 1,742lbs.

The little city car has also gained a cult following over the years.

A team even customized a Twingo to take part in Germany’s legendary Nürburgring 24 Hours race.

The name will soon return to the Renault lineup as an EV.

As it was never officially sold in North America, it is an unexpected sight outside of Europe.

Whoever has this Twingo is then the proud owner of one of the rarest cars in America.
