The McLaren F1 car is one of the most legendary supercars that has ever been built.
Originally produced between 1992 and 1998, the McLaren F1 is the brainchild of the legendary Gordon Murray.
Now, a particularly special example of the McLaren F1 is coming up for auction.
And it is a road-legal example that actually raced at Le Mans.

This isn’t just any McLaren F1 – it’s a GTR Longtail!
Have you ever dreamed (like most of us) of owning an actual McLaren F1 road-going supercar?
It is certainly once in a blue moon that the opportunity even arises to vie for one.
But one of the most special, unique examples of the iconic supercar is rearing its head on the auction block.
And that is because this example of the McLaren F1 happens to be one-of-ten GTR Longtails.
In case you’ve never of the GTR Longtail, allow us to introduce it to you.
Back in the 1990s, Gordon Murray came up with the now-iconic F1 road car.
Because it was such a hardcore road car, Murray reportedly told brand CEO Ron Dennis not to come back demanding that it be converted into a race car.

Of course, that is exactly what happened, and the F1 soon started hitting the track.
Amazingly, McLaren managed to win the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans with an F1 GTR Longtail.
But this particular McLaren F1 was built for the 1997 racing season.
It would be entered into that year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans, as well as six rounds of the 1997 FIA GT Championship.
What led to a one-of-ten supercar being available?
So, how come a one-of-ten supercar such as this is now available?
McLaren sold this particular example to a man who went by the name of James Munroe.
Munroe was later revealed to be a man named James Cox, an accountant.
The car, chassis 27R, was then acquired by Paul Osborn of CARS International before being sent to Lazante in 2011.

It is now being sold after having all of the racing work and development reversed on it.
It does still boast the same BMW S70 V12 that was modified for endurance racing in the 1990s.
This particular example is being auctioned by Girardo & Co., and you can check out the listing here.
If you could, would it be your dream to own such a special McLaren F1 from the 1990s?
