Electric speed isn’t a thing of the future, it’s already here, as the fastest EVs on the road demonstrate.

Supercars that once burned fuel are now powered by silent and instant torque.

From Maserati’s Folgore twins to Porsche’s record-breaking Taycan, EVs are smashing through the limits once set by gas power.

So here it is – a countdown of the fastest EVs on the road, from the everyday fast to the truly insane.

Fastest EVs: Volkswagen ID.R – 170 mph

Volkswagen’s record-breaking ID.R proved that electric cars could rewrite racing history.

Built to conquer Pikes Peak, it completed the climb in under eight minutes and then moved on to smash records at the Nürburgring.

Light, brutal, and designed purely for speed, it set the tone for every EV that followed.

Formula E Gen 2 – 174 mph

The second generation of Formula E cars showed how far battery tech had come.

With a 335-brake horsepower motor and a 174-mph top speed, it brought proper pace to city racing.

Silent but deadly through tight urban corners.

Maserati GranCabrio Folgore – 180 mph

Style first, noise never.

Maserati’s all-electric drop-top paired 750 horsepower with timeless Italian flair, sprinting to 62mph in 2.8 seconds before topping out at 180.

It’s proof that performance can look as good as it feels, earning it a spot on this list of the road’s fastest EVs.

Porsche Taycan Turbo GT Weissach – 190 mph

The Taycan Turbo GT Weissach made headlines when it became the fastest four-door around the Nürburgring.

Shedding 165lbs and adding extra aero, it reaches 190mph and rockets to 60mph in just 2.2 seconds.

Nio EP9 – 195 mph

Back in 2017, this Chinese-built hypercar shattered Nürburgring lap times and expectations.

With four motors and 1,341 brake horsepower, the Nio EP9 hits 195mph and proved China could play in the big leagues.

Maserati GranTurismo Folgore – 202 mph

The coupe twin to the GranCabrio, Maserati’s GranTurismo Folgore uses the same triple-motor setup but pushes past 200mph.

It’s the brand’s first fully electric grand tourer and easily one of its fastest.

Lucid Air Sapphire – 205 mph

Lucid took its luxury sedan and turned it into a supercar slayer.

With 1,200 horsepower on tap, the Sapphire reaches 205mph while carrying five people in quiet comfort.

It’s more limousine than dragster… until you floor it.

Xiaomi SU7 Ultra – 217 mph

The tech giant’s first hyper-EV didn’t just join the race, it won it.

The SU7 Ultra hit 217mph and stole Porsche’s Nürburgring record in the process.

Lighter, sharper, and built to shock, it’s China’s new electric headline act.

Lotus Evija – 217 mph

Lotus went from lightweight roadsters to all-out power with the Evija

Producing over 2,000 brake horsepower from four motors, it accelerates to 62mph in under three seconds and tops out at 217mph.

It’s less a car, more lightning bolt.

Pininfarina Battista – 222 mph

Hand-built in Italy, the Battista delivers 1,874 brake horsepower and hits 62mph in 1.8 seconds.

It’s officially limited to 217mph but in testing it reached 222mph, proving that limits really are just suggestions.

Beauty, meet brute force.

Rimac Nevera R – 268 mph

Croatia’s Rimac is the current EV benchmark.

The Nevera R packs 2,078 brake horsepower and a verified top speed of 268mph.

It also does 0-60 mph in 1.6 seconds, making it the car most likely to rearrange your organs.

Aspark Owl – 272 mph

Built in Japan and priced like a private island, the Aspark Owl pushed electric speed into the 270s.

The company claims 272mph and a 1.9-second dash to 60mph – numbers that used to belong to fighter jets.

Yangwang U9 – 308 mph

And finally, the king.

BYD’s luxury sub-brand Yangwang unleashed the U9 Xtreme – 2,978 brake horsepower and a verified 308mph top speed.

It’s officially the fastest production EV on Earth (see it in action in the clip above).

The tiny terror: Scalextric Honda F1 replica – 983 mph (scaled)

Okay, technically not a road car… or a full-size one.

But this 1/32-scale slot car hit a scaled 983mph during testing, making it the fastest EV on Earth in miniature form

Naturally we had to include it in this list, just for fun.

From Maserati to Porsche, the electric speed race is already full throttle.

And this list of the road’s fastest EVs proves just that.
