The most powerful Rolls-Royce to ever grace our roads unlocks its power using a secret button on the steering wheel of a special edition of the Spectre.
The incredible Black Badge Spectre EV has hit the market, described by some as a super coupe and inspired by the Supermarine Spitfire from World War II.
It’s not cheap, as you’d expect with anything from Rolls-Royce.
But the power is what makes this car so special, and it shows Rolls-Royce knows a thing or two about muscle as well as luxury.

A special button unlocks the extra power for the Spectre
The button that unlocks the EV’s extra power is directly inspired by the Spitfire.
During the war, a button in the aircraft would activate a surge of emergency power, helping pilots evade enemy aircraft.
The Black Badge Spectre has a similar system.
The button on the steering wheel unleashes what Rolls-Royce call ‘Infinity Mode’.
That unlocks an extra 73HP, bringing the full power of the luxury EV to a staggering 659HP.

The button also lights up the dashboard’s dials, so you know that you’re in this special mode.
Another feature, ‘Spirited Mode’, amplifies the torque of the car for even more performance.
Aviation inspired the extra performance for the Rolls-Royce
That second mode is also inspired by World War II aircraft.
This includes the Hawker Hurricane, North American P-51 Mustang, Avro Lancaster, and de Haviland Mosquito.
All of these aircraft had the legendary Rolls-Royce Merlin engine powering them.
Spirited Mode is activated by the driver fully depressing the brake and throttle peddles at the same time.

They then wait for a response from the car to signify it’s ready, before releasing the brake.
The Spectre will then rocket forward, and it can achieve a 0-60 time of just 4.1 seconds with the extra performance.
The company has described the Black Badge as the ‘alter-ego’ of the regular Spectre.
The higher-performance version costs over $50,000 more than the standard car.
The Black Badge also has a Vapour Violet paint finish inspired by club culture from the 1980s and 1990s.
The Spectre is the first EV that Rolls-Royce has produced, marking a significant change in direction for the company.
