“Flying Scot” Stewart strides to F1 supremacy
Jackie Stewart was a natural from the second he stepped foot in a Grand Prix car.
He made his Grand Prix debut in 1964 in the F3 class with the Tyrrell team.
In his debut race, Stewart gained a 25-second advantage in the opening two laps of the race.
The driver then took the Formula 3 World championship with ease in 1964 – an omen of what was to come.
The iconic Scotsman started in Formula 1 in 1965 with the BRM Formula 1 team.

1968 saw the Scot make the move to Tyrrell, competing as part of its Matra International Team.
He drove a Cosworth-powered MS10 and finished second in his debut season, behind Graham Hill.
That being said, Stewart would win the first of three F1 World titles the following year in 1969.
1970 would see the driver struggle with inconsistency, ultimately finishing sixth in the standings.
However, 1971 brought another title, with Stewart piloting the Tyrrell 003 – again, Cosworth-powered.
1973 saw the star win the last of his three World titles – the season in which he decided to retire.

Upon his retirement, the Scotsman held several extremely impressive records.
For 14 years, Stewart held the record for most F1 wins – until he was overtaken by Alain Prost in 1987.
He also held the record for most wins by a British driver until Nigel Mansell broke that record in 1992.
Until 2015, he was the only Brit to win three World titles – Lewis Hamilton would break this record.
Since the passing of the great John Surtees, Stewart is the only remaining World champion from the 1960s.
Sir Jackie Stewart reunited with Tyrrell 006 from 1973
Following his retirement in 1973, Stewart has remained active within his sport.
Stewart forged an extremely successful media career, serving as a commentator.
In particular, his commentary partnership with the legendary Murray Walker is fondly remembered.
Recently, at the Formula 1 Bahrain Grand Prix, something truly special happened.
Before the main race, Sir Jackie was reunited with his Tyrrell 006 from his last title-winning campaign.

In an extremely special occasion, F1 celebrated its 75th anniversary at the race.
Stewart also celebrated the 60th anniversary of his F1 debut in 1965 with BRM.
The special event also celebrated the 10 year anniversary of Stewart’s charity foundation, Race Against Dementia.
The racing legend got behind the wheel of the 006, heading out onto the track behind the safety car before the race.
It was a truly wonderful moment to see the 85-year-old doing what he does best.
Sir Jackie Stewart, we applaud your legacy and the charitable efforts you’ve dedicated your post-racing life to.
