South Carolina woman finds money – but it’s not out of generosity

Today’s story comes courtesy of the situation of a South Carolina woman.

Ann-Marie Baranofsky came back to her car after going on a dinner date with her husband a few days ago

Baranofsky, of Georgetown, South Carolina, came back to her car after the meal and found a $100 bill lying underneath the windshield wiper.

Naturally confused, Baranofsky took the bill to the local bank, where the teller told her to contact the police.

In response, the Georgetown County Sheriff’s office issued a statement warning drivers.

“Scammers are counting on you to get out of your car once you see the fake $100 bill under your wiper blade.”

“Once you get out of your car to retrieve it, you have allowed that person instant and easy access to your vehicle and its contents.”

“There are no $100 bill fairies out there, so do not fall victim to this scam.”

TikTok user posts potentially vital advice on $100 bill scam

Thankfully, this situation does not happen often – but it has led to a viral video about finding money under your windshield wiper.

TikTok user @Eveline.Strode published a video over the weekend, and it has earned over 237,000 likes.

The video, captioned, “tips that could save your life”, comes with extremely practical advice.

She gave advice on what to do in this situation: “If you see a newspaper or anything in the back here, it’s because they want you to get out of your driver’s seat and come grab this.”

So, why is the TikTok user worried? Well, it’s for a very good reason.

“When you go to grab this, they’re going to take you. You’re in a vulnerable position. Never get out of your car if you see a newspaper, money, or a piece of paper.”

It might be a very popular video – but it could prove to be an extremely important one for other potential victims of the $100 bill scam.

It is a timely reminder of how important it is to remain vigilant, especially when you are out and about in your car.
