In a bid to showcase the highs and lows of stripping down salvage cars, one man bought two different Subaru Imprezas from Copart and tried to turn a profit on itemized eBay sales.

People have been stripping cars for generations, taking working parts from trashed cars to give them a second lease of life and rescuing any cash from the wreckage.

With engines, airbags, wheels, and other parts being in high demand, one YouTuber has decided to see how much profit actually resides in these salvage cars.

But he learned a hefty lesson on the way to making his money.

Stripping salvage cars from Copart turns out to be a challenging task for one man

Whether it’s a rusty banger of a salvaged supercar, there’s always a need for niche car parts.

Taking to YouTube, Shouse life adopted the mindset of other content creators and identified a salvaged Subaru to strip for its valuable parts.

He then explained how he dismantled the vehicle beyond what was already wrecked.

The car was bought for $2,650, and immediately he began making money back from local sales.

Shipping the engine off for $450, the transmission for $250, the rack for $150, an LED headlight for $466, and keeping the $300 wheels for his son’s car, he’d quickly begun building up the cash.

However, he hit a brick wall.

Having counted on selling parts like the airbags, seatbelts, and modules, estimated to be around $900 in total, he found eBay blocked listings for safety parts like this, and he was unable to continue making money.

All in all, he made a simple $23 in profit.

And to put the dampeners on even more, he claimed he spent roughly $600 worth of labor time on the car, so in a world where time is money, he was losing out on cash.

But there were obvious flaws that he discovered, especially when it came to the airbags, and he immediately put his knowledge into action.

Learning his lessons with a second Impreza Sport

Sometimes, it’s better to know exactly what lies under the hood of your salvage cars, as you can quickly find suitors for these small parts.

And in the case of this man, he found a second Subaru Impreza on Copart that needed an airbag change.

With spare airbags from the original scrap yard vehicle, he bought the car and fixed it up, ready to be resold in full – well, after a bit of tinkering.

Unfortunately, the YouTuber hasn’t revealed how much he was able to sell the second vehicle for, but it’s a sure bet that he made a profit on it.

It goes to show, there’s a glass slipper for every fairytale character, you just need to have that Prince Charming grind mentality to go and cash in on it.
