Have you ever wondered if a Tesla Model Y is really cheaper than a Lexus RX 350?

Well, one man named Chris put these two cars head-to-head for 100,000 miles, and the results might surprise you.

Chris didn’t just stop at fuel and electricity costs, he included everything – repairs, maintenance, and other necessary costs as well.

So let’s dive into the numberss.

Tesla Model Y vs Lexus RX 350

The full breakdown of the costs of the two cars is revealed in a YouTube video posted by Chris on his channel EverydayChris.

Chris has done a bunch of cool tests with EVs and other tech, including a battery drainage test on the car after keeping it unplugged for 10 days straight.

But to really put EVs to the test, he said he needed to crunch the numbers.

Lexus RX 350

After clocking 100,000 miles on his Lexus RX 350, the total cost came to $27,600.

This included $26,600 for gas, engine repairs, and tires, plus another $1,000 for the timing belt.

Tesla Model Y

The Model Y racked up $10,774 for filters, tires, and electricity over the same mileage. However, there was an additional $12,000 cost for a battery replacement.

That brought Tesla’s total to $22,774 – still cheaper than the Lexus, but not by a huge amount.

Not everyone is convinced with the results

Chris admitted he thought the Tesla would cost more, but the EV came out on top.

However, not everyone was convinced.

Some viewers argued for the Lexus in the comments.

“Charging it during winter? Wear and tear of the tires!” one viewer said.

Another said, “Dude – you missed out the annual $2,500 insurance cost for the Model Y. My RX only costs $700 per year!”

Just like Chris, another car enthusiast from the UK made the comparison, bringing some different results to the table.

While the EV vs gas debate continues, it appears more and more people are making the switch to electric.

But according to some new insights, it appears the majority of Americans aren’t quite ready yet.
