A Texas Audi salesman has issued a warning after he revealed how much a woman was charged for returning her car 40,000 miles over at the end of her lease.
Posting on TikTok, a salesman, Jonny Harris (@jonnydelivered), explained how a woman walked into their showroom so she could return her Audi.
But upon checking the car, she had gone 40,000 miles over her lease limit.
As he stated on TikTok, that is a huge amount to be over.
That led to her being hit with a huge bill, and Harris issued a warning to others in the same boat.

It turns out different car brands have different mileage penalties for going over the limit.
Harris said Audi charges 0.25¢ a mile when you go over the agreement.

So for 40,000 miles over, the woman had to pay a massive $10,000 penalty.
Incredibly, it isn’t rare, according to the salesman, who says it happens more than we’d think.
In his video, he said, “You need to be careful with how many miles you are scheduling for your lease.”
How to avoid penalties for a leased car
There are some options to avoid being penalized for going over the mileage.
One is to buy the car itself, so you don’t have to worry about further mileage penalties.
You can also get a new lease and roll some of the penalty into the new one.
There is also the option to just pay the penalty and accept that you went over the mileage limit.
A few viewers of Harris’s TikTok waded into the discussion on the matter.
@jonnydelivered Be careful when leasing a vehicle! It’s very important to know how many miles you are actually driving when setting up the lease terms. #carsales #cardealership #audi ♬ original sound – jonnydelivered
One said the woman should have just bought the car, but Harris said she had already bought something else.
Another said they were 40,000 miles over too, but intended to buy the car anyway.
Others simply said they would never lease a car to ensure it was never a problem.
