To some people cars are like a religion, which is why they think there are places in the US (and beyond) where you kind of have to go at least once if you’re a car lover.
The Nürburgring springs to mind, along with Monaco.
And then there’s a very long list of places in the US.
Including a location some people may overlook.

If you’re in Europe, the first place that springs to mind is (probably) the Nürburgring.
The Nürburgring is actually a complex comprising circuits that still host motorsport competitions, but when people say ‘Nürburgring’, they generally talk about the Nordschleife.
That’s the north section of the ‘Ring that automakers use to test their cars and set records, and car lovers go to drive their vehicles as fast as they dare… legally.
Although to be fair that’s something they can also do on the German Autobahn and the Isle of Man.

There are several other iconic tracks in Europe – Silverstone in the UK, Spa in Belgium, Imola and Monza in Italy and so on – but there are also carspotting locations.
The millionaires and billionaires of the world generally drive their luxury vehicles in London and Monaco.
Puerto Banus (above) in Spain also deserves a honorable mention.

There’s another place that absolutely deserves a honorable mention and that’s the Transfăgărășan (pictured above).
If you can get over the difficult pronunciation (it kind of sounds like trans-fagar-ashan, more or less), the Transfăgărășan is a beautiful highway in Romania.
It was first popularized in a Top Gear episode from nearly 20 years ago, and it’s now a mainstream road trip destinations.
And it’s easy to see why.
These are the destinations in the US every car lover should see once
We start with California, which is still a very important state for everything automotive.
California is home to the Petersen Automotive Museum (pictured below), the Pebble Beach Concours, and it is also home to two of America’s highly-respected collectors: Jay Leno and Magnus Walker.

Moving eastward, you’ll find the Henry Ford Museum in Michigan in the Midwest, and the National Corvette Museum further south, in Kentucky.
But once you’ve explored those two places, it’s probably worth traveling back to the West Coast with a stop along way.
The stop along the way, in Utah, will give you the chance to check out the Bonneville Salt Flats, which don’t really require an introduction.
And then, back on the West Coast, you’ll find a place that might require one.

Washington isn’t the first state that comes to mind when talking about cars, but perhaps it should be.
Washington is home to a place called LeMay – also known as ‘America’s Car Museum’.
This museum features themed galleries that cover absolutely everything about American automotive history.
Maybe that explains why they put it in a state, Washington, that’s not exactly known for its automotive history.
