A Volkswagen owner parked his VW Golf outside of Hermes, and was stunned at their reaction when he came back two days later in his Bugatti supercar.
Hermes is a French luxury fashion house, and one of the oldest in the world, having been around since 1837.
It produces some of the finest clothes in the world, and has collaborated with some automotive manufacturers on various cars, but Carl Hartley, the owner of a Bugatti, had quite an experience.
Having initially gone in a Volkswagen Golf, he had quite a surprise when he returned to the store in a Bugatti.

What happened when he arrived in the VW Golf
After pulling up to the store in his car, Hartley could see the doorman looking at him weirdly through the door.
It took Hartley a bit of time to be allowed into the shop.
After this, he asked to see the manager.
However, the doorman said she wasn’t available.
Despite saying he would be happy to wait, the doorman repeated the sentence.

Hartley had gone into the shop to try to buy a bag for his wife, but he hit another snag.
After simply asking if they had some in stock, he was told they didn’t and that he could not buy one.
Dismayed, he walked out, but two days later, on a Saturday, he decided to go back with his wife.
This time, however, he was in the Bugatti Supercar and not the Volkswagen.
The reaction to the Bugatti at the Hermes store was very different
This time, he pulled up outside in the Bugatti.
That same doorman came rushing out to him to let him into the store.
The manager of the Hermes shop was already inside, pouring out champagne for her potential customer.
Having told her what he wanted to buy, the manager took Hartley to a private buying room.
She then took three of the bags his wife wanted out to show him.

After that, Hartley confronted the doorman and asked if he remembered him, but the doorman said he didn’t.
Hartley said he did, and that he didn’t want to let him in the shop because he arrived in a VW Golf and not a Bugatti.
Annoyed at this, Hartley told them he wasn’t buying the bags and walked out.
This story really did take ‘don’t judge a book by its cover’ to the next level!
