Nebraska has the world’s largest time capsule

Back in 1975, the world’s largest time capsule was conceived.

The residents of Seward, Nebraska, decided to put together a massive collection for the future.

It turns out that the world’s largest time capsule includes a Kawasaki motorcycle.

Among the 5,000 items, however, was the real star of the show.

Because one of the town’s residents included a 1975 Chevrolet Vega car in the capsule.

What makes the inclusion even more fascinating is that the Vega is a brand-new, zero-mile model.

Fifty years stuck in the world’s largest time capsule would make you think that the car is in terrible condition.

However, it actually appears to have been preserved in remarkable shape.

Instead of actually waiting until July 4th to open the capsule, the city had different plans.

Seward is planning to feature the Chevrolet Vega in its July 4th parade, as well as to celebrate the time capsule.

How did residents of Seward, Nebraska, come up with the idea?

You might be wondering at this point how the idea of the world’s largest time capsule came to be.

The idea actually happened to be the brainchild of local businessman Harold Davisson.

Davisson wanted the capsule to be opened after 50 years, so most of Seward’s young people would still be around to open it up.

Clark Kolterman, chairman of Seward’s Fourth of July celebration committee, said this.

“Many people know about the time capsule.”

“They’ve heard about it for the last 50 years, and Harold, in his wisdom wanted it to be open so that people there could remember it.”

Aside from the Chevrolet Vega, there are lots of other fascinating items within the capsule.

A Teflon skillet managed to find its way into the capsule, as well as a 1970s pet rock.

Barbie plays a prominent role as well, as does a sack of corn from the 1970s.
