Mat Armstrong, one of YouTube’s most popular automotive figures bought a wrecked Lamborghini SVJ.
And he had incredibly high hopes and ambitions for this latest mammoth project.
As a matter of fact, he plans to take on presenting legend Jeremy Clarkson’s Aventador lap time.
Now he has attempted the challenge – with a result that might well surprise you.

Mat Armstrong buys himself a wrecked Lamborghini SVJ
Mat Armstrong has just bought a completely wrecked Lamborghini Aventador SVJ.
Yes, you read that right – one of YouTube’s biggest automotive creators has bought a wrecked-out SVJ.
And he has bought this incredibly time-consuming (and expensive) supercar with one goal in mind.
To beat the lap time that Jeremy Clarkson set in the same supercar.
Mat and his team have already done most of the groundwork on this project.
They have managed to restore most of the bodywork, the wheels and brought it back to life.

However, there was a big problem – Mat couldn’t get the car to accelerate above 60mph.
The servicing codes pointed to a communications fault in the rear steering motor.
It turned out that the rear steering motor is knocking – possibly due to crash damage.
A $6,000 used module threw up the same error codes, suggesting that it was wired to the car.
Unfortunately, Mat also got expensively stung when the left-rear MagRide shock started leaking.
This cost the YouTuber another $8,000 to put right on the Aventador SVJ.
Finally, a breakthrough – the team was able to work out what exactly had gone wrong.
A break in the signal wiring loom higher up in the car explained the fault codes.
The team then got a replacement rear-steer unit, with the hopes of pairing the good electronics.
Finally, the team used a clever fix – they took the good half of the original motor and transplanted the correctly coded electronics onto it.
After a calibration cycle, the error codes cleared and Mat had lift-off for the Lamborghini.
The team hits the track – but can they beat Clarkson?
The remaining body parts was reassembled to make the car look like itself again.
Then, it was finally time to hit the track – and try and beat out Clarkson’s time in the process.
For those who are unaware, Jeremy Clarkson’s original time was 1’59s in the SVJ.
So Mat Armstrong and his team had their work cut out for them.
Early banker laps around the circuit see times produced in the 2’08s region.

There was plenty of room for improvement – but the brake fade warning light came on.
The car ultimately overheated, and is retired into the pits to try and cool.
Several other members of the team log different results, and they are interesting.
One person laps in 2’15s, but the team also report times that beat James May’s 2’06.4s and Richard Hammond’s 2’03.1s.
Jeremy Clarkson’s time – of 1’59s – remains out of touch, though.
Make sure to check out the video – it is more than worth watching for such an interesting project.
