It’s no secret that Porsches ooze glamour.
Even branch of the car brand itself claims that founder Ferdinand Porsche ‘strived to create the perfect car inside and out, refusing to compromise power for style.’
So it makes sense that they are, in fact, an ever popular snap up.
Take this man for instance, who bought a one-way ticket to Detroit to buy the cheapest Porsche Taycan of its kind in the country.
Or, this guy who bought a mechanically totalled Porsche for scrap value and then fixed it with a $200 product from Amazon.
This auction find though, may not be one for the – positive – history books quite yet.
You see, after the guys over on the JR Garage YouTube channel bought ‘the cheapest Cayman S in the world’ at auction, it became pretty clear why it was such a steal.

It’s a cheap Porsche, but at what cost?
After purchasing the Porsche, the guys decided to start it up and see just what the deal was for themselves.
And it’s safe to say it went downhill very quickly.
Firstly, the front seat was ‘crusty’ – which let’s face it, wasn’t the best sign.
Then, as they got up close and personal with the Cayman S, they noticed a few things.
It had new rear tyres and a new battery – which is odd when the previous was planning to get rid of it, right?
There were also loose screws and parts missing but also no dipstick – not ideal.
But, it went from bad to worse real quick.

They then tried to start it and it didn’t quite go to plan.
The first attempt was fruitless, as the key simply would not power up.
As they were about to lose hope, they found a fuse and managed to start it.
At which point, the smoke came into play – we’re talking clouds and clouds of the stuff.
They decided to persevere with an added spark plug, and after even more smoke came out of the car’s system… it actually drove pretty well.
Only, the success was short lived
Except, yep, you guessed it – the smoke kept on coming.
The worst part? We don’t even know if it will run again as the YouTubers left us hanging.
That might be because, according to repairpal.com:
“The probability of a repair being a severe or major issue is 19% for the Porsche Cayman, compared to an average of 11% for luxury compact cars, and 12% for all vehicle models.”
So, in the grand scheme of things you could say the guys got quite lucky.
