Best Ferrari ever built' expected to fetch $30 million at auction

This gorgeous and rare 1955 Ferrari 410 Sport Spider by Scaglietti is set to break a few records when it hits the auction block at RM Sotheby’s in Monterey, California next month.

The 410 Sport Spider was designed by Sergio Scaglietti, an iconic Italian coachbuilder who used to work closely with Ferrari.

The vehicle has a rich history and a crazy racing pedigree.

It has been driven by, among others, Carroll Shelby and Juan Manuel Fangio.

In fact, Shelby once recalled a conversation with Enzo Ferrari, who called it “the best Ferrari [we] ever built”.

According to the pre-auction estimate, it is expected to fetch between $25 and $30 million.

When Enzo Ferrari founded the brand in the late 1940s, he was famously not interested in selling road cars, he just wanted to win races.

The 410 was designed to do exactly that, powered by a ‘big block’ 4.9-liter V12.

With some of the most prominent drivers of the era, the 410 quickly became a serial winner.

F1 legend Juan Manuel Fangio won the 1956 1000 km of Buenos Aires and then, between 1956 and 1958, the car was driven by Phil Hill, Bruce Kessler and Carroll Shelby, just to name a few.

During those three years, the 410 entered nearly 40 races, with 11 victories and 19 podium finishes.

The car has changed hands a few times, but each owner has looked after it because it is still in perfect condition, as you can see from the pictures.

It was first restored in 1980 and then again in 2012, when the twin-plug V12 was rebuilt.

Included in the sale, the soon-to-be lucky owner will receive the very first and last trophies that Shelby won at the wheel of the car, in addition to the original 1957 Nassau racing number plate.
