Kim Kardashian wearing Balenciaga mask

Kim Kardashian recently attended the Balenciaga Haute Couture show in Paris and donned a bizarre full-face helmet.

It looks like it came straight out of the 1979 movie Alien.

Just about every fashion house in the world has designed face coverings and masks during the past two years for obvious reasons.

However, this collab from Balenciaga and Mercedes takes the trend to a whole new level.

Yes, the Balenciaga face shield was developed in partnership with Mercedes-AMG’s F1 Applied Science division.

Yep, they’ve got a division for that.

It’s made from tinted polyurethane with much-needed anti-fog technology.

Some call it a mask and others call it a helmet, but the fashion house officially refers to it as a ‘face shield’.

It covers your entire face as well as your scalp and part of your nape as well.

It’s a bit weird. And it’s also really expensive for what it is at around $6000.

Generally speaking, runway outfits are designed to shock the audience and grab the attention of fans and photographers.

However, they are not necessarily going to hit the shelves.

Having said that, it seems that luxury brands have been pushing the envelope in recent years.

But most of the mad and daring clothing items and accessories they have released actually end up being bought by celebrities and influencers.

This is definitely one of those.

It’s kinda funny because they say it was made so that celebs can wear it and have some privacy but walking around with this on their face will probably draw even more attention.

And that’s probably the whole point.

For the time being, the face shield can be only purchased its recently opened couture store at 10 Avenue George V, a stone’s throw from the Champs-Élysées.
