Elvis Presley’s personal jet is for sale, and it’s cheaper than you think

But the red velvet interior alone might just be worth it.

Elvis Presley’s personal jet is up for sale and it is actually a lot cheaper than you think.

Unfortunately there’s a very good reason for that: the plane can’t fly.

The private jet in question is a 1962 Lockheed JetStar with red and silver livery that Elvis Presley bought for $840,000 – that’s about $4.4m when adjusted for inflation.

The passing of time has definitely taken its toll on the exterior, which looks a bit rusty.

The interior, however, is spectacular.

Nothing about it is standard apart from the wood paneling.

CHECK THIS OUT!

The plush seats and the carpet are covered in thick layers of red velvet.

The media cabinet has a TV with a VCR player and an audio-cassette player.

It even has a microwave.

It is currently parked inside a hangar at the Roswell International Air Center in New Mexico and it is going to be auctioned off in January.

Which brings us on the key issue here: the plane can’t fly.

Most of the cockpit equipment was removed and the plane doesn’t even have an engine.

Mecum, the auction house that’s overseeing the sale, says the plane will have to be disassembled in order to be shipped.

This might deter buyers, and indeed it already has in the past.

Kruse GWS, another auction house, tried to sell Elvis Presley ‘s private jet last summer and it failed, despite a starting bid of just $100,000.

Mecum hasn’t revealed the pre-auction estimate yet, but you can expect a 6-figure starting bid.

And that, for a personal vehicle owned by one of the world’s greatest celebs, is unheard of.
