Brand new Porsche Panamera mistakenly advertised for $18,000

Who in their right mind would pass up the opportunity to buy a Porsche Panamera for an eighth of its usual asking price?

Talk about thinking all your Christmases have come at once.

Porsche collectors in China thought their luck was in when they spotted a dealership advertising a Panamera for an eighth of its usual asking price.

Instead of being listed for the actual starting price of ¥998,000 ($148,000), the dealership was advertising the modestly priced sedan for ¥124,000 ($18,000).

You’d be stupid not to take advantage of such a great deal, right?

Plenty of people did – in fact, hundreds put down $135 (¥911) reservation fees.

Unfortunately, the dealership in the northern city of Yinchuan had made a serious mistake in their online ad, something which Porsche acknowledged.

The dealership was left red-faced and took down the incorrect information immediately, a spokeswoman for the German marque told Bloomberg.

Porsche was made to contact all interested parties to explain the situation and to obviously apologize.

Collectors who had paid the reservation fee will be issued refunds within 48 hours, the spokeswoman said.

One particular collector fell in luck, though.

Porsche said it had reached out to the first person who made an online reservation and “negotiated an agreeable outcome.”

Supposedly, the deal involved the one Porsche Panamera the dealership had in stock.

Porsche Panamera Performance

The Panamera occupies a neat position within the Porsche lineup, offering the low-slung dynamics of a 911, with the practicality and spaciousness of a Cayenne.

There’s no such thing as a sluggish Porsche of course, and even the slowest version of the Panamera does 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 5.6 seconds.

The top-of-the-range Turbo S packs a punch, with 621 bhp and 605 lb-ft of torque on tap, meaning it’ll sprint from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 3.1 seconds – that’s faster than some supercars.

If you can find a long enough bit of tarmac, you’ll be able to hit 315 km/h (196 mph).
