Project Mondo G looks like it should be driven on the moon

We've seen some crazy four-wheeled creations in our time, but the 'Project Mondo G' collaboration between Mercedes-Benz and Moncler takes the biscuit.

Project Mondo G

Collaborations between automotive brands and fashion labels aren’t something new.

The first one that springs to mind is Paul Smith and his various bespoke MINI creations.

This collaboration is a little bit different, though.

Project Mondo G is a result of a collaboration between Mercedes-Benz and Moncler.

There’s no hiding the fact it looks like a G-Wagen cloaked in a puffer jacket, including the zip.

But whilst it’s probably the oddest four-wheeled creation we’ve seen in a while, we quite like it.

The ‘art piece’ was unveiled at the Moncler ‘The Art of Genius’ show, which took place during London Fashion Week.

An unexpected nod to both Mercedes and Moncler is how it’s being described by Mercedes’ head of sales and marketing, Britta Seeger.

Don’t think anyone saw it coming, to be fair.

The unique G-Wagen features a quilted roof and enormous, quilted monster truck-style wheels, both finished in the same glitzy nylon fabric used for the fashion label’s luxury jackets.

It includes more intricate details, too, like a zipper on the roof, a raised air intake, and a patina-effect paint job, giving off a very rugged vibe.

The team behind Project Mondo G said they are playing with the contrasts between the rectilinear design of the SUV and the soft, round design of the jacket.

Project Mondo G size

Whilst the pictures make it look like a dinky toy car, it’s actually a sizable beast, weighing in at 2.5 tons.

Including its huge tires, the G-Wagen measures in at 3.4 meters (11 feet) in width, 2.8 meters (nine feet) in height, and 4.6 meters (15 feet) in length.

To put that into perspective, it’s the same width as two Ford Fiesta cars.

What is Moncler?

In case you’re not familiar with the name, Moncler is a Milan-based fashion house specializing in flashy outerwear.

Its puffer jackets generally come in with a price tag well in excess of $1,200 per item.
