Zimmer Golden Spirit

If you’re in the market for a top-of-the-line luxury car, the Rolls-Royce Phantom or Bentley Flying Spur might be top picks.

If tech is your thing, you’d probably go for the new BMW i7.

But where does the Zimmer Golden Spirit fall?

That was a rhetorical question as, more than likely, you’ve never heard of it.

To be honest, neither had we until now.

It was originally built for a Texan doctor and, rumor has it, was used to ferry President George W. Bush around at the 2003 Texas Motor Show.

The Golden Spirit is a Frankenstein car, having started life as a 2002 Lincoln Town Car.

The company responsible for this crazy Frankencar is Zimmer.

The company was founded in 1980 and went bankrupt in 1988, during which time it gained a reputation for making odd retro barges.

Believe it or not, in 1996 a man by the name of Art Zimmer (no relation to founder Paul Zimmer) bought the rights to the company.

Picking up where his predecessor left off, Art Zimmer continued to build weird and wonderful 1920s and 30s-inspired sedans up until 2020.

The Zimmer Golden Spirit is the perfect example, powered by a 4.6-liter Ford V8, which sends power to the rear wheels through a four-speed auto box.

On the inside, there’s dark gray leather with Zimmer logos embroidered onto the seats.

Other ‘luxuries’ include a Kenwood sat nav and Alpine DVD players for the rear-seat passengers.

It couldn’t be more Noughties if it tried.

To be honest, the less said about the exterior of the Zimmer Golden Spirit the better.

What are the gold-plated hood ornament and air horns all about?

How long is the thing?
