The Dodge Demon 170 just set a new history-making record.

With a 0 to 60 mph time of just 1.66 seconds, the Demon 170 is now the fastest-accelerating car in the world.

It’s faster than anything else in fact, including the Rimac Nevera, who previously held the record at 1.9 seconds.

The record was set with a Dodge Challenger equipped with the new ‘Demon 170’ package.

Not only is this the fastest-accelerating road car ever, it also set another record on top of that.

Running on E85 fuel, and powered by a monstrous V8, the Challenger completed the quarter-mile run in just 8.91 seconds, with an exit speed of 151 mph (243 km/h).

Dodge Demon 170 pricing and availability

The Dodge Challenger Demon 170 is road legal, and it is actually a production car.

The engine is a 6.2-liter V8, producing 900 horsepower on regular fuel, or 1,025 on E85 ethanol fuel.

Dodge will build 3,330 units in total, each with an MSRP of $96,666.

This is a big win for the internal combustion engine but at the same time it is also a hollow victory because, as we all know, gas cars are on their way out.

And the automaker has already turned the page.

Last year, they unveiled the new Daytona SRT (below), the world’s first electric muscle car.

Muscle cars are all about performance and sound.

The first part is not an issue, because extracting horsepower out of an EV is quite easy.

The second part is a bit tricky, but Dodge decided to address this by creating a state-of-the-art sound for the electric muscle car, too.

They call it ‘Dark Matter’.

This is just a prototype, but a production version for the electric charger is expected by 2025.
