Cupra DarkRebel

If you’ve ever fancied yourself as an automotive designer, we’ve got some news for you.

You could actually play a part in designing a new sports car for a global automaker.

Sounds too good to be true, right?

Before you get carried away, let’s just fill you in on what’s going on.

Cupra recently unveiled a production version of the Tavascan electric SUV-coupe.

In all honesty, it’s a bit underwhelming, however, its followed it up with a two-door shooting brake sports car – the Cupra DarkRebel.

Now you’re talking.

This is where there’s a catch.

The Spanish automaker says the Cupra DarkRebel is “a virtual sports car” that acts as a “show car presented through Metahype, Cupra’s space in the metaverse.”

What does that even mean?

Thankfully, it has said that the Cupra DarkRebel will appear as a “physical model” in the near future.

“After five years of building the Cupra brand in a nowadays world, it is time to think about the next step, our next dream,” said Cupra CEO Wayne Griffiths.

“The Cupra Dark Rebel is the ultimate interpretation of our vision.”

Whether the prototype will go into production or not, who knows, but apparently the general public can actually influence the final design.

This can be done via the brand’s ‘Hyper Configurator’, but you need to be a member of the ‘Cupra Tribe’ to gain access.

Sounds like a kids’ club at a holiday resort, to be fair.

Once you’re signed up, there are three different environments where you can influence the design of the Cupra DarkRebel.

However, there’s a limit to what you can change in each one.

Named the Exponential squire, Exponential cube, and Exponential infinity, you’re able to change the “colors, materials and finishes” of the Cupra DarkRebel.

Sounds pretty neat, but hopefully you’re able to influence the powertrain, too.

We think a naturally-aspirated V8 would do the job.
