Michael Jordan retired 20 years ago but his popularity never faded.

Regarded by pundits and fans alike as the ‘greatest basketball player of all time’, Jordan won six championships and played in the NBA for 15 seasons.

He also won four gold medals with the US National Team and that’s where this jersey comes from.

Jordan famously wore the number 23 throughout his career at Chicago Bulls but occasionally used other numbers when playing for the National Team.

At the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, Jordan wore number 9.

This jersey – signed by Jordan himself – was worn by Jordan in the semifinal against Lithuania on August 6, 1992.

With a net worth of $2 billion, Michael Jordan is one of the wealthiest sports people in the world.

In the early 1980s, when Jordan was still a college rookie in North Carolina, Nike decided to offer him a sneaker deal and launch a new spin-off brand built around him.

Dubbed Air Jordan, the name is a reference to the player’s ability to seemingly ‘levitate’ in the air while shooting hoops.

The 60-year-old star receives royalties on every Jordan sale, and Nike generates (on average) a total of $15 million in Jordan Brand sales every single day.

You do the math.

Netflix recently released a biographical film based on the true events that led to the creation of the Air Jordan brand.

Titled ‘Air’, it stars Damian Young as Michael Jordan and Ben Affleck as Nike founder Phil Knight.

Matt Damon plays Sonny Vaccaro, the marketing executive who signed Michael Jordan to his first sneaker deal.
