Police free bear trapped inside car

Police officers have just been called to a somewhat hairy situation in Nevada.

A massive bear got itself trapped inside a Subaru Outback and the police were forced to come up with an inventive way to free it.

Luckily for us, they filmed the whole thing and posted it online too.

Deputies from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office responded to the call out this week, admitting “you never know what a call may bring”.

And instead of just opening the door to let the bear out, they came up with a different, more complex strategy.

The officers got a long length of yellow string and tied it to the backdoor, which luckily had a pull-out handle.

Then they got as far away from the car as possible and gave the string a pull.

This was enough to yank the door open from a safe distance.

With the door open, the video shows the bear immediately popping its head out and jumping to freedom.

While the video looks like it was shot with a potato, you can still clearly see the bear – and just how massive it is.

It might not be the most straightforward method, but it certainly got the job done safely, so kudos to the officers.

While the bear was safely out, unfortunately for the owners, that wasn’t the end of the story.

The video then cuts to the backseat of the Outback and it’s torn to shreds.

Not only is the leather shredded, but the bear somehow ripped off the side door panel.

It also damaged the B-pillar trim.

But the situation could have been a lot worse.

The Washoe County officers said that this type of scenario wasn’t actually all that uncommon.

Apparently bears go from car to car, opening them and rummaging for food.

They’ve cautioned people in the area to avoid leaving food or food wrappers in their cars and remember to always lock their doors.
