A 1963 Ferrari 250 GT Lusso was recently unearthed in a property for sale in Santa Cruz, California

Interesting barn finds are a relatively common occurrence.

But unearthing a Ferrari 250 GT Lusso in a garage in a big city is almost unheard of.

Yet, that’s exactly what just happened in Santa Cruz, California.

Realtors Dana Bambace and Kimberly Ward were handed the keys to inspect a two-bedroom, two-bathroom fixer upper home in the city.

As they inspected the home to work out how much work needed to be done, they popped their heads into the three-car garage and found a huge surprise.

Underneath a dusty tarp was a 1963 Ferrari 250 GT Lusso – one of just 350 built by the Italian marque.

As the story goes, the rare Ferrari and home were owned by the late David Downs, a scientist who worked at Lockheed Martin.

Following Downs’ death in 2022, the three heirs had no intention of holding onto the valuable ride, so Bambace put them in touch with classic car broker Andy Grundy.

Grundy immediately identified the car as a “pretty good find”, however, he was keen to know more, so raced to the home to see it in the flesh.

Upon closer inspection, Grundy confirmed the Ferrari 250 GT Lusso was in fact the real deal.

Apparently, the Ferrari had been repainted just 15 years ago and had its engine rebuilt in the early 2000s, so it didn’t take much to get the old girl purring again.

Valued at around $1.5 to $1.6 million, the Downs family is now selling the car, too.

As for the Santa Cruz property, it’s listed for sale for almost $2.5 million.

This list price included the installation of a new kitchen, bathroom, updated flooring throughout, and the renovated three-car garage.
