Porsche's new active suspension system is blowing everyone away

Porsche’s new active suspension system has been unveiled via the 2024 Porsche Panamera.

The Panamera is already an iconic ride and considered one of the most powerful German cars.

This is the third generation of the four-door grand tourer.

But this time, the E-Hybrid models have some clever new technology beneath the bodywork.

The German automobile manufacturer’s hydraulic suspension has been labelled Porsche ‘Active Ride’.

The active shock absorbers on all four wheels are powered by an electrically-operated hydraulic pump.

Porsche claims it’s so powerful that the new Panamera doesn’t need springs to deliver a comfortable ride.

Instead, Porsche’s new active suspension system uses four hydraulic motor-pump units.

As well as hydraulics technology, there are also two-valve dampers, allowing those models to tilt into corners.

Activate the active cornering dynamics function and the vehicle leans towards the inside of the turn, reducing lateral forces.

In fact, it can put over 2000 pounds of force into each suspension corner

The models can also maintain equilibrium and increase comfort when accelerating or braking hard.

It works via a selection function, which lowers or raises the vehicle on the front and rear axles during the respective driving situation.

This, in turn, reduces the longitudinal forces for the driver and their passengers.

When braking during dynamic driving, the transfer is offset by ‘rolling and pitching’ movement to enhance performance.

Switch on the Sport Plus driving mode and the vehicle lowers.

The body is actually lower than the level of the air springs during dynamic cornering and heavy braking.

This in turn which means that wheel load changes are significantly reduced equalling enhanced performace.

It’s all about balancing the Panamera’s handling characteristics and ride quality over the further developed adaptive air suspension in the standard setup.

The ‘Active Ride’ trifecta simultaneously makes the drive more comfortable, refined and athletic.

And, in smoothing out surface irregularities on the road, it also reduces noise pollution within the cabin.

Speaking of performance: it boasts a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, e-motor and battery pack developing 671bhp in total.

The Porsche Panamera Turbo E-Hybrid sprints to 0-100 km/h / 0-62 mph in 3.2 seconds, topping out at 315 km/h (196 mph).

The V8 engine is a new-generation model.

What’s more the bigger battery (now 25.9kWh) allows for an e-range of up to 56 miles.

The range starts at £99,000 in the UK, while pricing for the US model will be announced soon.
