Apple finally released the long-awaited iOS 18 update, which comes with a lot of features everyone expected, and a few that caught people by surprise.

But, this is a bit of a moot point to people who don’t own the ‘correct’ iPhone or iPad.

The good news is the list of compatible devices is pretty long.

The first thing we need to point out about the update is it does offer some AI features.

But of course, Apple always does things a certain type of way.

This explains why every other company is talking about AI, as in artificial intelligence, but Apple actually uses the acronym AI for Apple Intelligence.

That’s the most Apple thing we’ve heard today.

The list of compatible devices is extensive, but not infinite

Apple users who own any iPhone after the second generation SE will be able to update their smartphone to iOS 18.

The new update is compatible with every iPhone 15, 14, 13, 12, and 11 model, as well as with the Xs, Xr, and SE, but only the second and third generation, not the first one.

Things aren’t as rosy when it comes to iPads.

In order to update to iOS 18, you’ll need an iPad Pro from 2018 or later, or if it’s an iPad Air or Mini, then it’s only for those who own a model from 2019 or later.

Apple iOS 18 finally answers the question iPad users have been asking

Why doesn’t the iPad have a calculator?

Apple iPad users have been asking the same question for ages because it still didn’t have one.

Until now.

Apple regularly adds features that Android users have had for years, but this time the company has done things a bit differently.

With the new update, iPads will finally have a calculator, but it’s not a ‘normal’ calculator because it comes with a clever AI feature.

You can handwrite equations on the screen (with the Apple Pencil), and the iPad will understand what you wrote, solve the equation, and provide the answer matching your handwriting.

It supports variables, and if you change the equation, the iPad will understand and update the answer accordingly.

And a few more things

iOS 18 will finally allow users to switch between different themes to have the icons match the wallpaper.

More importantly, and again this is something else Android users could already do, iOS 18 will allow users to freely move icons on the screen.

Obviously, this is something Android users have been doing for years, but we all know Apple’s MO, don’t we?
