BYD and Yangwang have released the footage from the Yangwang U9 Xtreme supercar EV and its incredible record lap around Germany’s Papenburg test circuit.
The Yangwang U9 Xtreme shattered the production car speed record at the test facility, making it the fastest production car in the world and beating the Bugatti Chiron.
The company posted images of the car during its high-speed run and has now uploaded the onboard footage of it on the BYD YouTube channel.
In the video, we get to see the incredible speed of the electric hypercar, as it pushes the limits.

How fast did the BYD go in Germany?
Believe it or not, the incredible Yangwang EV broke 300mph.
Specifically, it reached a top speed of 308.4mph at the high-speed oval, a hugely impressive achievement.
This beat the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+, which itself set a record of 304.8mph in 2019.
The U9 Xtreme was also faster than the impressive Aspark Owl supercar.

The Owl was still fast but much slower than its rivals at 272.6mph.
Also lagging behind was the Rimac Nevera R with its 268.2mph top speed.
BYD’s onboard footage gives a very strong impression of just how 300mph+ feels on a high-speed oval.
Trees flash past in a blur, and the driver is completely focused on going as fast as possible.
How the incredible U9 Xtreme gets its power
Naturally, a top speed over 300mph would not be possible if the car did not have bundles of power at its disposal.
The regular Yangwang U9 has 1,288hp from its electric motors.
In the U9 Xtreme, however, four electric motors produce a staggering 2,978hp.
The car also has the honor of being the first production car to have a 1,200V ultra-high voltage platform under the skin.
This system allows for a quicker shot of electricity through the platform and to the electric motors.
It also helps to improve the fearsome acceleration of the Chinese car.
With masses of power and performance, it’s no wonder that the supercar broke Bugatti’s record.
The onboard footage showed just how incredible that power felt as the speed ramped up.
