The Porsche 911 is arguably the most iconic sports car that has ever been built.

The German automaker’s centrepiece has been in continuous production for over 60 years.

Recently, a Canadian YouTuber got his hands on the fifth-generation 911 – the 996.

And he’s made the claim that it’s better than the classic, air-cooled Porsche 911.

What exactly is the Porsche 996?

In 1997, Porsche unveiled the fifth-generation, facelifted version of its iconic sports car.

The Porsche 996 was a hugely important car for the German manufacturer.

For one thing, it was the first 911 ever to come with a water-cooled engine.

Up until that point, the iconic sports car had always come with an engine that was air-cooled.

It was also the first 911 since the original to come with an all-new chassis platform.

Interestingly, the 996 shared its platform with the newly developed Porsche Boxster.

The model was quite divisive upon release, with many Porsche purists pouting at the water-cooled engine.

Others strongly voiced their dislike at the new design, with the iconic bug headlight design also having been changed.

YouTuber makes an extremely bold 911 claim

A couple of days ago, Canadian YouTuber Ridiculoose released a Porsche video.

He kicks off his video by explaining his love and devotion for the Porsche brand.

In particular, he describes the feeling of being associated with a brand that carries such heritage.

As he rightly points out, the 996 sold over 175,000 units during its overall nine-year production run.

The YouTuber explains the joys of the travels he has experienced in his four years of owning the car.

He also said that this video is simply his love letter to the 911 of his generation.

Now, to be fair, he explains that he drove a water-cooled 996 before ever driving an air-cooled version.

And he explains that ‘for what you pay and for what you get,’ the water-cooled generation wins out.

To his credit, the YouTuber makes some pretty convincing arguments in his defense of the 996.

We’re just happy to see a fan enjoying and driving their favourite car – and sharing the journey.
