The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 makes its debut as the most powerful supercar in the company’s history, producing 1,064 horsepower.

It reaches 233 mph and covers 0 to 60 mph in just 2.3 seconds, putting it among the fastest cars ever built in the United States.

Chevrolet engineers say the ZR1 was developed for use both on the track and on public roads, with adaptive systems that keep its speed in check.

The combination of lap records and sales demand has made the car one of the most closely watched new models in performance this year.

Corvette ZR1 on the track

At the Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany, the Corvette ZR1 completed a lap in 6:50.763, the quickest time recorded by an American manufacturer.

The Chevrolet Corvette delivered 828 lb-ft of torque during testing, matching acceleration levels seen in much higher-priced cars.

Adaptive suspension and electronic stability systems make it possible for drivers to manage the horsepower without losing control.

Brian Wallace, the lead dynamics engineer, said the car was designed to remain predictable and stable despite its output.

The Corvette ZR1 starts at $174,995, with the ZR1X priced at $207,395.

Analysts report that both models are selling above list price and leaving dealer lots in less than two weeks, while the Stingray, Z06, and E-Ray remain on lots for longer periods.

Since the switch to a mid-engine design in 2020, more than 160,000 Chevrolet Corvette models have been sold.

The ZR1 is now positioned as the most advanced version of that generation.

Chevrolet Corvette looks forward

At Monterey Car Week, Chevrolet presented the Corvette CX and CX.R Vision Gran Turismo concepts.

The CX is an all-wheel-drive electric supercar prototype producing more than 2,000 horsepower with four motors and torque vectoring.

These concepts suggest how future Chevrolet Corvette models may adopt electric power while keeping the focus on performance.

The Corvette E-Ray is another example of the lineup’s changes.

It is the first hybrid Chevrolet Corvette and the first to use all-wheel drive.

The model combines a gasoline engine with an electric motor and remains a hybrid rather than a fully electric car.

Analysts often note that the Chevrolet Corvette fills a different space than its European rivals.

Ferrari and Porsche emphasize exclusivity, while the Corvette delivers supercar performance at a lower cost.

The Corvette ZR1 continues that approach, offering horsepower levels rarely seen in a road-legal car and expanding the reach of American performance engineering.
