Chevy models come in all different shapes and sizes, along with powertrains and engine sizes, but it seems that this car defied the odds completely.

In a video posted to TikTok by one very confused driver, he explained that he had allegedly disconnected the battery and even removed the keys from the ignition, and the car was still running.

Engines are made up of many components that are all needed in order to work, but with this engine, that was clearly not the case.

So in a bid to find an answer, the driver enlisted help, and the internet had lots to say.

This Chevy was a marvel of engineering

We all know how simple starting a car is.

For many makes and models, this involves simply placing the key and turning it; for others, it means pushing a button.

And stopping it simply means removing the key or pressing the button again

But, with this Chevy, the car kept on running after the keys were out and the battery was allegedly disconnected, according to TikTok creator stansfordshiflett.

“Keys are out, ignition is turned, it should be off.

“Battery disconnected, both positive and negative.

“The fuel pump relay has been pulled, and this thing is still running f*****g strong,” he said.

And to prove what he was saying, he panned round to the engine, where we could see parts still very much in motion.

After sharing the video online, it ignited discussion among other car lovers who were confused about the state of the Chevy engine.

“Battery not being connected doesn’t really change anything; they run off the alternator just fine.

“The ignition could be shorted somewhere, but that fuel pump relay, I have not a clue in the d**n world,” commented one gearhead.

“Fuel relay is pulled, and it’s not a diesel….best guess there’s too much back pressure in the tank, open the gas tank, and it’ll turn off,” said another person.

“It’s because it’s a Chevy,” joked a third.

There could be an explanation for the car running despite a disconnected battery

Much like the comments underneath the videos, there could be a simple reason as to why the Chevy was still running with the battery disconnected.

Some suggested that this was due to running off the alternator, but it could also be a fault within the car or engine itself.

When searching around car forums, it seems that various trucks from different brands, including Chevrolet, have been known to still run without the key in the ignition.

We should also note, though, that the lights on the dashboard were still on, too, meaning the electricity was also still working.

We’ve reached out to Chevrolet to ask if the engine still running can be explained, and we’ll let you know if they reply.
