The 2025 Corvette ZR1 surprised enthusiasts during a recent dyno test by recording staggering horsepower figures well beyond its official rating.

Conducted by Paragon Performance, the test showed 1028hp at the wheels, nearly matching GM’s claimed output at the crank.

The car used was a stock unit with just over 500 miles on the odometer.

This result has sparked new discussions around drivetrain efficiency and GM’s power ratings.

Dyno test suggests GM may be underrating the ZR1

The dyno test, livestreamed by Paragon Performance, revealed that the stock C8-generation Corvette ZR1 delivered 1028.6hp and 839.8lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels.

The ZR1 is officially rated at 1064hp and 838lb-ft at the crank, which typically assumes a drivetrain loss of around 15 percent.

In this case, the results imply a loss of just three percent or potentially a much higher crank output than advertised.

Paragon used a fifth-gear pull inside a controlled dyno cell, ensuring consistent air temperature, humidity, and fluid temps for accuracy.

Graham Coner, Paragon’s lead tuner, explained that every variable from oil to coolant temperature was monitored and logged.

These environmental controls made the horsepower figures especially meaningful, since real-world conditions often produce lower output.

In this case, the test created an ideal baseline for evaluating how the car’s actual horsepower figures compare to factory claims.

This ZR1 belongs to a pair of new models recently delivered to Paragon.

The shop plans to run similar tests on the second car in the coming days to compare results and eliminate any anomalies.

Additional data will be published in a follow-up video, including results from aftermarket intake and exhaust installations already underway.

What this means for the Corvette ZR1 and beyond

If GM’s stated horsepower figures for the Corvette ZR1 prove to be conservative, it would follow a pattern seen in the car’s top speed ratings.

The company initially claimed the ZR1 could exceed 215mph.

Months later, it confirmed the car had reached 234mph in independent testing.

With the ZR1 already exceeding expectations, all eyes are now on the upcoming hybrid ZR1X.

That version will pair the same twin-turbo V8 with a front-mounted electric motor to deliver an extra 186 hp.

If the base ZR1 is capable of over 1020hp at the wheels, the ZR1X may push Corvette performance into entirely new territory.

Paragon Performance’s dyno test provides strong evidence that the 2025 Corvette ZR1 may be significantly more powerful than GM’s official rating suggests.

With more testing on the way and further parts development in progress, the C8 platform continues to evolve, backed by data rather than speculation.
