A Dodge Charger Hemi 500 equipped with the 426 Hemi engine has been uncovered in Pennsylvania, making it one of the most extraordinary muscle car barn finds in recent memory.
The Charger 500 was built in limited numbers in 1969 as Dodge worked to improve its NASCAR performance.
Only 67 of these cars were produced with the Hemi engine, placing this model among the rarest Mopars of the era.
After more than five decades out of sight, this rediscovery is capturing the attention of collectors and enthusiasts worldwide.

Dodge Charger Hemi origins and rediscovery
The Dodge Charger Hemi 500 was developed as an answer to aerodynamic problems with the standard Charger.
Engineers flattened the rear window and gave the car a new grille to reduce drag on the racetrack.
Production cars were modified by Creative Industries in Detroit, and the small run of vehicles was offered to the public to satisfy NASCAR rules.
While estimates suggest between 392 and 580 Charger 500s were made, only 67 carried the 426 Hemi engine.

The Pennsylvania Dodge Charger Hemi 500 was found by Mopars5150, a group that documents rare Mopar discoveries.
It had been owned by the same person since 1969 and placed in storage in 1972.
The body has surface wear from age, but the 426 Hemi engine is still in place.
Original paperwork, including the window sticker, was also recovered, helping confirm the car’s authenticity.
The rarity of the Charger 500 paired with a Hemi engine makes this one of the most significant muscle car barn finds to surface in years.
Mopar homologation models
The Charger 500 barn find highlights the growing attention on Mopar homologation models in today’s collector market.
Daytonas and Superbirds are well known, but the Dodge Charger Hemi 500 with a 426 Hemi is rarer and often overlooked.
With fewer than 70 built, it is one of the smallest production runs of any Dodge performance car from the muscle car era.

Collectors value originality as much as restoration potential, and this one-owner car offers both.
The Pennsylvania muscle car barn find also shows that more forgotten Mopars may still be hidden in storage across the United States.
As interest in these cars grows, the Dodge Charger Hemi 500 discovered in Pennsylvania will likely be remembered as one of the most important finds of its kind.
