Elon Musk’s companies are resorting to buying huge numbers of unsold Tesla Cybertrucks.

It has been extremely well documented that Tesla Cybertrucks have not been popular this year.

As a matter of fact, they have almost entirely fallen by the wayside.

And it has left Elon Musk’s companies – such as SpaceX – buying hundreds of units.

Elon Musk’s promises are big – but fall flat

You might remember that, back in 2023, the Tesla CEO was feeling more than a little happy.

As a matter of fact, the face of Tesla was pretty delighted with himself.

That was because he had the Tesla Cybertruck up his sleeve.

Back then, Musk promised that Tesla would not be able to keep up with demand for the EV truck.

The Tesla CEO was so bold as to predict that 250,000 to 500,000 Tesla Cybertrucks would be sold every year.

Unfortunately for the brand – and the CEO – that promise really hasn’t come anywhere near close to fruition.

In reality, the brand hasn’t even been able to sell more than 20,000 Tesla Cybertrucks this year.

And it looks as if the brand has come up with a novel way to deal with the true scale of the underperformance.

At this point, you might be wondering what it is we’re talking about.

Well, it is being reported that Elon Musk’s companies are ‘buying’ huge numbers of Tesla Cybertrucks.

The company is, essentially, selling Tesla Cybertrucks…to itself.

Tesla Cybertrucks sold…to themselves?

The scale of the embarrassing admission has been laid bare by publication Electrek.

SpaceX has reportedly already taken delivery of hundreds of Tesla Cybertrucks.

Carriers were also seen delivering trucks to Musk’s AI startup xAI’s offices.

And, in worse reading for the CEO, the numbers don’t help.

Just 5,385 Tesla Cybertrucks were sold in the third quarter (Q3) of this year.

That is a downturn of a whopping 63 percent compared to this time last year.

And, to be clear, this is not all just because of Elon Musk’s controversies outside of Tesla.

The Cybertruck has been recalled multiple times for often-glaring design issues.

It has also been lambasted for having a less-than-stellar range in spite of the premium price.

And that’s not even mentioning resale prices, which are on the low end.

What the future holds for Tesla Cybertrucks is something that will be intriguing to see.

Will Elon Musk’s personal project push on, or will it eventually meet its end?
