Now that some of the best electric cars in the world have spent years on the road, it’s possible to see which EVs retain the best battery range, with the likes of Tesla, Ford, Cadillac, and Jaguar coming under scrutiny.
When it comes to EVs, one of the biggest selling points is the range.
With a lot of anxiety around charging, including prices and availability, getting an electric car that drives the farthest and can hold its range for years is a huge bonus.
But with battery degradation being an important thing to recognize, here are the best EVs at holding their range.

How do brands make batteries last longer than others?
On average, EV batteries on the market now are expected to last up to 20 years.
Realistically, most batteries might be closer to the decade mark, especially in cases where there’s heavy-duty driving, as the more miles on the clock, the more tired your car is going to be.
And therein lies the secret. Keeping a maximum range for as long as possible is all about keeping the battery healthy, and that starts in the powerplant.
Some brands have been looking to squeeze more out of their EVs, and the formation of new batteries is proving that newer power units are lasting up to 40 percent longer than those released three years ago.
Some can even ‘self-heal’ to extend their lives even further.

However, not everyone can afford the luxury of a brand-new car with this advanced tech, so lots of us need to rely on older batteries for now.
According to a study from Recurrent, the battery degradation problem isn’t quite as bad as it seems, though, with a handful of brands able to keep their power banks maximized for at least three years.
Cadillac, Hyundai, Mercedes-Benz, Mini, Rivian, and Ford were able to maintain 99.9 percent of their battery life across different models.
But there are some losers in this game.
Which EVs have the best range three years on?
While the study revealed the six brands that have barely been impacted by three years of driving, the likes of Tesla haven’t been as fortunate.
Averaging 96.3 percent health after three years, Tesla is by no means the worst of the bunch, but it could also be a worrying stat if you plan to have a Model Y for the next decade.
Although it’s an older car, one person has proven that a Tesla with a decade of driving loses about 20 percent of its battery life, but this can be impacted by your charging habits.
Still, you could be putting your eggs in a Jaguar-shaped basket.
The study claims that Jaguar EVs lose the most battery life, at almost a tenth after the first three years.

If you’re looking at new cars, Jaguar has big promises for its fresh models, but maybe a Ford or Cadillac might be worth looking into.
