It’s hard to comprehend quite how big a million is or a billion dollars is, but the five most expensive things ever created by humans are all American vehicles – and they cost multiple millions and billions of dollars.

When you think of the most expensive man-made things, you’d probably think of famous tourist monuments or maybe even certain mansions, but we actually have to look toward the US Army and Navy for that title.

It’s almost incomprehensible to see the things that cost more than the GDP of small countries, and you’d be surprised to see what qualifies.

So, let’s take a look at the five most expensive things ever created by humans, and be genuinely blown away by the eye-watering price tags.

5. Airbus A380

Coming in at fifth place on the most expensive American vehicles list is the menacing Airbus A380 plane with a not-too-shabby price tag of $600 million.

This mammoth aircraft is the largest passenger plane ever built, with a nearly 80-meter wingspan and a very unique flying experience in the completely silent cabin.

Despite celebrating its 20th Anniversary, it still remains a very popular aircraft due to its extremely luxurious interior with customizable cabins that have showers, loungers, and private suites.

4. Northrop B-2 Spirit

We have another aircraft on the list in the form of the funny-looking Stealth Bomber or the Northrop B-2 Spirit, which comes with a price tag of $4.2 billion.

The arrow-shaped aircraft is subsonic and can carry a crew of just two people, and parts of the building process were subcontracted to various aviation greats, including Boeing, Hughes, and Vought.

Only 21 were ever built between 1989 and 2000, but with its eye-watering price tag, it’s no surprise that the US Air Force made such a small number.

3. USS Zumwalt Stealth Destroyer

Moving from the air to the sea now, this guided missile destroyer comes with an $8 billion price tag and was named after Admiral Elmo Zumwalt.

The design is different from other destroyers made primarily for deep-water combat, and instead is used to support ground forces.

The unique use and design mean that this still-active sea beast comes with an unsurprisingly large price tag.

2. Columbia-class Submarine

Staying in the sea, we now move to deeper depths with the Columbia-class submarine, one of 12 new ballistic missile submarines (SSBNs) which come with a $9.15 billion price tag.

It’s the largest submarine ever built by the United States Navy, and comes with the most up-to-date capabilities and stealth.

The multi-billion-dollar submarines are not set to sink below the depths until 2027, but are a very exciting concept for the US Navy.

1. Gerald R. Ford-class Aircraft Carrier

The most expensive thing ever created by humans on this list – and in the whole world – is the Gerald R. Ford-class aircraft carrier with a price tag of a whopping $13 billion.

The mammoth aircraft carrier has a displacement of 100,000 tons and has three elevators. It’s also incredibly technologically advanced and a very impressive beast.

Despite being bigger than its predecessors, it actually holds fewer people, as all the remaining space is used for hi-tech equipment – a very impressive vessel.
