This man from the UK hopped on a flight from London to Florida chasing a rare Ferrari 599 GTB but ended up learning what he described as ‘shocking information’ that made him question if he wanted one at all.
Scott Chivers is an avid collector and a Ferrari enthusiast, so he obviously knew what he was getting into.
It wasn’t that he didn’t like the car, but he ran into some unforeseen difficulties.
The biggest one was getting the car back to the UK, which he said was easier said than done.

Hunting the rare Ferrari 599 GTB in Florida
YouTuber and enthusiast Scott Chivers, who also goes by Ratarossa, was on an admitted ‘supercar hunt’, chasing a Ferrari 599 GTB in Florida.
For context, he’s the same guy who previously ‘hunted’ a vintage Ferrari 512BBi and also owns a Ferrari 360.
Now that we’ve established his brand loyalty, he was obviously serious about getting the 599 GTB.
This car’s story, however, is somewhat complicated.
It all began when its original owner totaled it, and another YouTuber called Samcrac bought and partially restored it.
Sam put quite a lot of effort into making this supercar run again — which it did.
Ratarossa, too, was involved in its initial restoration — and that’s when he wanted to buy it.
Why he didn’t want to buy it anymore
After a promising visit to Florida, he instantly fell in love with the 599 GTB.
After all, it was the last car with the iconic Ferrari 6.0-liter naturally aspirated V12 that came with a manual transmission.
That, if anything, makes it super iconic by today’s standards, which is also possibly why Lewis Hamilton owns one.
Anyway, this YouTuber had made up his mind until he discovered some critical information.
To get this supercar back to his home in the UK, he would have to pay import taxes — which is usual.
However, he also would have to pay UK taxes in the form of VAT, which made this purchase very expensive.
The number? More than $20,000 in taxes alone.
Hence, he didn’t go through with his dream purchase, and it all watered down to him being disappointed.
It’s a shame, really — because this could have been one of the most lucrative project cars ever.
