Formula 1 legend Jean Alesi has just made a blockbuster announcement.

The French-Sicilian famously competed in Formula 1 for 12 years.

He most famously enjoyed a spell at Scuderia Ferrari.

And he is now selling off his Ferrari F92A from the 1992 season.

Formula 1 legend Jean Alesi selling his 1992 car

Ex-Formula 1 driver Jean Alesi is officially selling his Ferrari from 1992.

The F92A, driven by Alesi himself, will be auctioned off in Paris in January 2026.

Alesi’s F92A has been in his ownership for more than 30 years.

It was gifted to the Formula 1 legend following the conclusion of the 1992 season.

In case you were wondering, this car hasn’t exactly been driven since.

As a matter of fact, it has sat dormant since being gifted to Alesi.

The Ferrari F92A that he drove has been stored in the gym of the Frenchman’s villa near Avignon.

Of course, owning a Formula 1 car isn’t the only rare Ferrari in Jean Alesi’s collection.

He was gifted an F40 by Scuderia Ferrari shortly after signing for the team in 1990.

Not a bad gift for making the move from Tyrell, right?

Jean Alesi, of course, no longer owns that Ferrari F40.

And that is because he sold it in 2020 to fund his son’s Formula 2 career with Arden International.

F92A remembered for what went wrong

Unfortunately, this particular Ferrari – the F92A – is famous for all the wrong reasons.

It is remembered as one of the worst Formula 1 cars Ferrari has ever produced.

1991 was a very bad year for the Scuderia outfit for a variety of reasons.

That year marked an incredible amount of infighting and chaos within the team.

It also saw the shock dismissal of fellow icon Alain Prost from the team.

Jean Alesi was then promoted to effectively lead the team into the 1992 season.

Unfortunately, the Ferrari drivers were handicapped by a pretty terrible car.

The Jean Claude Mignot-engineered F92A featured several aerodynamic developments.

But the team neglected the V12 engine, leading to a horrific product on the track.

The powerplant suffered from blow-by issues, leading to oil leaks in the combustion chamber.

Both Alesi and teammate Ivan Capelli found themselves 40-50hp down on their main rivals.

Jean Alesi would be forced to retire his car nine times during the 1992 season.

And now it is set to be sold off as a very unique kind of Formula 1 memorabilia.
