Hyundai’s luxury division, Genesis, has built a luxury station wagon that might save us all from the current onslaught of large and boring SUVs.

Many of us probably feel SUVs are way too common at the moment, and even Ferrari has caught the bug with the Purosangue.

But some manufacturers still believe in other types of car, and Genesis, the luxury division of Hyundai, has taken the covers off its rather elegant G90 Wingback station wagon.

More photos and information on the car have come to light after an initial reveal of the concept several weeks ago.

The Genesis G90 Wingback is the saviour we need

First of all, the new G90 Wingback is a tremendously good-looking car compared to most modern SUVs.

The latest images show an extended roofline on the model versus the concept, creating a very stately shape.

It’s a bulky-looking car with bulging fenders, a large grille, and extra vents.

There are some aerodynamic appendages, but Genesis has kept them subtle, retaining a touch of class with the design.

The rear features a very tasteful spoiler, plus the diffuser is also done in the same manner.

When the concept was revealed, Genesis was coy on production possibilities.

But with this evolved design, it looks much more of a certainty than it did before.

Why a wagon instead of an SUV?

The company itself feels that there are too many SUVs currently on sale.

Chief Creative Officer Luc Donckerwolke said there was ‘a multiplication of SUVs.’

He also believes it will lead to a saturation of the market, but the G90 Wingback offers respite from that.

As it’s such a different shape, it instantly becomes very attractive compared to SUVs and crossovers.

Should the car reach production, it will be an extension of the recently launched Magma performance subbrand, and it’s expected that the Wingback will be produced in limited numbers.

Think of it as a bridge between the Magma range and Genesis’s One of One bespoke program.

With so many large vehicles on the market, the automotive scene did feel quite boring.

Now, Genesis is potentially becoming the saviour of the automotive world.
