The secret of the Imperial Crown droptop

YouTuber Lou Costabile loves sharing people’s car stories and this one is one of the most wholesome.

Lou met Cindy, a woman who was showing off her ice-blue 1965 Imperial Crown droptop, a car created to rival that of Cadillac or Lincoln.

The Imperial Crown was the flagship car for the Imperial brand, putting Chrysler on the automative map before separating the two brands.

This particular Imperial Crown droptop is special for many reasons, the family history of Cindy’s car in particular is really beautiful, but the secret design choice by Imperial really helps it to stand out.

The Imperial Crown is known for being styled on an airplane, the tail lights and fuel cap resemble a propeller, but the secret hidden gas cap blends seamlessly into the rear aesthetics, making it look sleek, smart and well thought through.

Family matters

Cindy’s Imperial Crown used to belong to her aunt and uncle and she has fond memories of cruising round the Western suburbs of Chicago in the back of the blue beauty.

When both her aunt and uncle sadly passed, instead of letting the convertible slip away into a different family, Cindy bought it back as she realized she couldn’t part with the car or the memories associated with it.

Cindy has put a lot of time and effort into restoring it, including adding modern touches like a bluetooth radio but keeping the modern faceplate.

She used the original manuals which she kept with the car and tried to keep everything as in line with her heady childhood memories cruising in the car.

This labor of love has taught her the importance of women taking part in a male-dominated area of life and preserving her own family history.
